The story begins at the wedding of Snow White with Prince Charming. Mad as a hatter, the Evil Queen lays everyone under a curse. Thus, all and sundry are exiled to the real world, namely to Storybrooke, with no memory of their true identities. Through some sudden turn of the wheel of fortune, Henry Mills, the adopted son of Storybrooke’s Mayor Regina Mills, decides to search for his birth mother, Emma Swan. He is convinced that she is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. According to the legend, Emma is the only one who can break the curse. The little boy’s trump card is a book given to him by his teacher Mary Margaret Blanchard.

Fairytales give one a new lease of life… the feeling that your dreams just may come true. However, Emma Swan‘s life has been anything but a tall story. A bounty hunter living in Boston, she came up the hard way. When the son she gave up for adoption 10 years ago shows up on her doorstep, everything changes. Desperate for his mother’s help, Henry is ready to go all lengths to convince her that she is destined to defeat the Evil Queen and break the curse holding everyone captive in the real world. Skeptical, Emma doesn’t believe a word. However, when she gets to Storybrooke, she can’t help sensing that something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

As Henry shows her around, both the sleepy New England town and its inhabitants seem just strange enough to set off her already suspicious nature. After meeting Regina, who the boy believes is no other than the Evil Queen herself, Emma becomes very concerned for him. In staying, she manages to ruffle Mayor Mills’ feathers. The conflict only increases when Emma becomes the town Sheriff.
