New Girl revolves around an unusual bunch of youngsters who place modern relationships in a new light. Jessica Jess Day (portrayed by Zooey Deschanel) is a bubbly middle school teacher in her late 20s who, after breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, moves in a loft with three single men she met through Craigslist. Vulnerable, positive and honest, Jess has so much faith in people so that sometimes she can’t punch her way out of a paper bag. With the aid of her new roommates, she tries to pick up her crumbs and move on.

One of Jess’ new roommates, Nick Miller (played by Jake Johnson) is a law school dropout who spends most of his time tending bar at Clyde’s. Usually the smartest guy in the room, he has the special gift of reading people. Nick is also on his way to recovery from a slightly less recent break up. The “douchebag” of the group, Schmidt (portrayed by Max Greenfield) is a hustling young professional who works tooth and nail to climb the social ladder. A stereotypical ladies’ man with a heart of gold, he also thinks he’s a terrific sleight of hand magician.

The third of Jess’ new roommates, Winston Bishop (played by Lamorne Morris), is an intensely competitive former athlete who must figure out how to live in a world without basketball… Last but not least, there’s Cecilia “Cece” Meyers, Jess’s childhood best friend. Cece is a model with a killer poker face. When she’s visiting the loft, Schmidt never take his eyes off her.
