Shortly after her mother Amelia dies in what appears to be a tragic accidental fire, Cassie Blake moves in with her grandmother Jane in the small town her mother left so many years before. Deeply saddened, Cassie wants just to pass as a watch in the night. Her hopes of fitting in with the crowd are crushed when she is recognized by a few of the residents and their children, namely Adam, Diana, Faye, Melissa and Nick. Strange to say, the townspeople of Chance Harbor, Washington seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself.

As she gets to know her high school classmates, things take a strange and frightening turn. Eventually, Cassie’s new friends reveal to her that they all descend from powerful witches. More than that, they’ve been waiting for her to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle. Although, at first, Cassie refuses to believe them, Adam shows her how to unlock her incredible powers. Step by step, she begins to accept her destiny and her family’s magical heritage. The last shadows of uncertainty vanish when Cassie discovers a message from her mother hidden in an old leather-bound book of spells. Thus and so, she finds out that Amelia never wanted to tell her daughter about her gift in order to keep her safe. It turns out that the youngsters’ powers attract dark and dangerous attention that constantly puts their lives in jeopardy. As surprising as it may seem, this threat comes from the adults in the town, including Diana’s father and Faye’s mother. Moreover, Amelia’s death might not have been an accident.
