I wish i had a valid answer but i too find this very confusing all i can imagine for now is that he gets rewarded by the island forbeing protectiv and staying by his word for along time – that or the jaja juice Eve gave him which may contain super powers. yep and i think that wine jacob drank is the same as the kind richard drank, so maybe its the wine itself that makes people not age

I don't think he possesses the bodies. I agree with mark he only forms like them. Proof: Fake Locke was already leading the tribe “Locke's people” while Locke's body was carried around in a box by Illana and her group… So there were TWO “bodies” of Locke around. One dead, and one MiB.

Approximately 2,000 years before the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, a woman named Claudia is in the ocean clinging to the remains of a ship. She looks around and sees an Island. Eventually she is washed ashore and as she struggles to her feet her billowing red dress reveals her advanced pregnancy. The beach is strewn with debris from the shipwreck. She makes her way inland and drinks from a stream. As she drinks she sees a woman reflected in the water. The woman takes Claudia to her primitive camp, feeds her and treats her injuries.

Jacob and his twin, moments after birth.The two have a conversation in Latin, and the woman answers Claudia's questions, telling her that she is alone and that she also arrived “by accident.” Eventually she says that every question Claudia asks leads to another question and she suggests that Claudia should rest, and be grateful she is alive. Evidentally, it's not so obvious to everyone. There's a lot of people saying that Smokey has been impersonating Jacob's brother all along.
