You can not pass out from being nervious! The only fear-anxiety states that can make you pass out is if you have fobic fear of blood and see actual blood – that somehow makes the hastig bloodpressure-drop that is necessary to make one pass out. Fear and anxiety on the other hand only increases blood pressure – it is the evolutionary developed respons “fight or flight” that kicks in and lead to high activation and arousal states to make the person (who is percepiting danger) ready in both mind and body to take action.
In panic anxiety and panic-attacs people often fear they will pass out or go crazy or somehow loose control over them self. Part of treatment is simply explaining the phisiological-cognitive workings of the mind and body like I have above. Spreading the (erroneus) idea that you can pass out from fear is only making things worse for the people who struggles with panic attacs.

Awesome show, always love it, keep it up Cucirca and posters ! You're doing an awesome job !
Now I don't wanna flame Ingrid but stating facts without giving details as how one would know something is just how flaming usually starts on the internet. I've witnessed people lose consciousness in a very stressful environment (in some military trainings) that did include but not exclusively extreme noises, lightning effects and repugnant odor. No, those who passed out weren't epileptic, unless of course 55% of them just happened to be that and got thru the screening process.
Its really just the amount of how much an individual can handle, passing out of fear has been regarded as a way for the brain to just simply trying to disconnect itself from the body (yes metaphorically) when no other means are available to relieve the stress of a situation.
How do I know ? I've had scientists explain to me what I was about to see along with the other guys I was with at the time. Knowing the fact that they won't stop until you break doesn't help, I was among the first ones to pass out.
thepsychologystudentfromnorway
Mike! I am sure I don't know too much about the way the body works in a prolonged or extremely stressfull environment, and would't want to make a statement on it on the internet or anywhere else, so it is good that you pointed it out. what I do know is is what they teach us psychologystudents about how the body reacts in a panic-fobic state where your sympathetic nervous system bolts an arousal-state for survival. But as we are off course talking of people being overly fearfull in in “normal” situations like speaking in a crowd or taking the buss etc (and not people being apropriatly fearfull or aroused in a not-normal situation) i am sure that the fear-reaction you get in a phobia is not the same hole complex (!) picture you get in an extrem envirionment situation and that we can separete these cases.
So I maintain my previous statement, but with a more precise formulation: You can not pass out from fear of speaking in public (or taking the bus or trying to shop in a big mal on x-mas eve or any of these typical phobias)
There are a lot of people out there who's lifes are restrained because their fear of passing out if they get panicky (amongst other fears) prevents them from doing things like speaking in public, and because of that I whish they would stop portreying it like that in films etc.
And as for wanting to know where I got this information from, it is what they teach us at university studying to be a psychologist, and if anyone is interested in learning more just search for self-help books about coping with panic disorder based on cognitive behavioural therapy, or for a more academic introduction for instance the one we use which is “Cognitive Therapy for anxiety disorders” by Adrian Wells.

Hi Ingrid! Can you prove to me that it's not really possible to pass out in those cases that you said? (excluding the stressful situations and etc that Mike said) I mean the examples that you gave… and do you learn how to explain them to a person who has them to avoid it?
shelly
did raj just spoke in front of penny?? (when he said, dont worry you are with your C-men?)

Hey ingrid,
Unfortunately, your university teachers are not correct. Psychology teachers are probably not the best resource for physiology teaching
Syncope (fainting) can occur during panic attacks and high anxiety states, as a result of the hyperventilation which can occur during such episodes. Hyperventilation causes the concentration of carbon dioxide to fall in the blood. The decreased level of carbon dioxide causes blood vessels in the brain to constrict and the person may feel faint, or actually faint, if the concentration falls too low. This is because less oxygen than is needed is able to get to the brain, due to the reduced blood flow in these constricted cerebral vessels.
Tell your teachers “Bazinga” for me will ya lol

Charlotte
Um to that ingrid person?
I realise that might be what they teach you in physicology school, but i suffer from anxiety and panic attacks in high stress environments and in extreme stress i will develop heart palpatations, though my phobias can cause me to pass out aswell. Panic attacks begin by the person feeling overwhelmed, they then get a sensation on their neck and then the rest of their body, simular to the shivers or goose bumbs, their breathing then becomes heavy and their brain's electrical thought proccess will switch from the right to left brain, leaving them with emotional thoughts which will increase their panic and let in to much oxygen, leaving them with no carbon dioxide. And class what does to much oxygen do to the brain? it puts it into a kind of sleep mode, hence why people pass out, such as myself. Please dont comment on things you have never been thru, its insulting. You have never expirenced a serious panic attack, believe me, waking up with your nose or somthing broken because you've passed out during a painic attack is not enjoyable!!

he did!!! I hadn't even realised hahah but yeah he did o.o

Ermm.. they didn't join tails when having sex.. theyr tails were swinging joyously while they were having sex. Makers' of the show fail.

nope they connect, there was a leaked script to the public after the movie was played in theaters. The script wasn't used in the movie so that they can keep the age limit lower, but their tails to connect. In other words, they didn't fail, they win for actually doing extra research.
