Based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries focuses on Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”), for whose heart are fighting two vampire brothers, one good and one evil. After the death of their parents in a tragic car accident, Elena and her younger brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, “Everwood”), attempt to get the feel to their new reality. The two are now living with their aunt Jenna (Sara Canning, “Smallville”), who tries her hardest to substitute their parents.
Hiding her grief from the world, Elena finds relief with her friends Bonnie (Katerina Graham, “17 Again”), Caroline (Candice Accola, “Juno”) and Matt (Zach Roerig, “Friday Night Lights”). In the meantime, Jeremy goes on drugs. When the school year begins, Stefan Salvatore steps into the picture at Mystic Falls High whipping up Elena and her friends’ interest. But this handsome and mysterious new student has a dark and deadly secret… he’s a vampire. Things take an unexpected turn when, at a bonfire party, Matt’ sister is attacked and left bleeding to death. Stefan seems to recognize the method of operating and has his suspicions concerning the attacker.
Returning home, he meets his older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder, “Lost”), whom he hasn’t seen for 15 years. Due to the fact that Stefan rejects their legacy, Damon holds him up to ridicule often creating war clouds. As luck would have it, Elena looks exactly like a woman his younger brother loved more than a century ago… a woman that he tried to steal from him. Now, the two vampire brothers are again at daggers drawn. This time, they are fighting not merely for Elena’s heart but for the souls of her family, friends and all the residents of Mystic Falls.
