Yes, B12 is needed to make DNA (and hence, RBCs) and a lack of B12 will in the long run cause pernicious anemia (with demyelinating symptoms, etc.). But here's the thing- the human body stores up to a year's supply of B12. You don't lose it when you bleed. Losing lots of blood makes you anemic because you have fewer blood cells and therefore can't carry enough oxygen around as efficiently. The suggestion that B12 will help her to replenish her blood stores is rather silly, as blood loss entails a direct loss of heme (iron) and not of B12.
