dude dont u remember that desmond was late in pressing the button? seriously when he was chaseing the other guy towards desmonds old boat, he didnt make it back in time to push the button, it had started to discharge the electricity. also if u go back and watch 1 of the episodes desmond even says that he thinks he is the reason the plane crashed.
