Inspired from “Grey’s Anatomy“, the show follows Addison Forbes Montgomery, a renowned neonatologist surgeon, as she “begins the rest of her life”. After a broken marriage with Derek Shepherd and an unsuccessful relationship with Mark Sloan, Addison moves to Los Angeles leaving behind Seattle Grace Hospital and her past.

Private Practice

Once there, she reunites with Naomi and Sam Bennett, her friends from medical school, and joins them at their chic private practice, Oceanside Wellness Center in Santa Monica. Naomi is a fertility and hormone specialist and majority owner of the clinic while Sam, recently become her ex-husband, is an internist. He also wrote self-help books which had a huge success transforming him in the “common man’s medical guru”. Although they are divorced, Naomi and Sam co-exist for the sake of their daughter, Maya, and their medical practice. Among their colleagues ranks Dr. Cooper Freedman, the center’s resident pediatrician, who isn’t as successful in his personal life as he is in his profession.

Cooper finds consolation and also counsel in his closest friend, psychiatrist Dr. Violet Turner, probably because both have the same luck when it comes to love. As opposed to the two, the alternative medicine specialist, Dr. Pete Wilder, is a “catch” and more than that, between Addison and him is an immediate and even palpable chemistry. Keeping an eye on all, William Dell Parker is the young, quirky and confident receptionist. Although he may seem like a “butterfly” surfer, he is deeply interested in the medical profession. He has his heart set on becoming a midwife and sees in Addison the chance to have a mentor.

And there is Charlotte King, the Chief of Staff of the nearby hospital, who comes in conflict with the doctors from the center. She believes that their care methods are unorthodox and inferior to her own. Each episode of “Private Practice” manages to captivate through challenging cases and unexpected twists.

Anyone know why it's only every second week? I really can't stand this!!! I live in Germany and we have to wait like a year for the new season! No explanation on the ABC website either! :-(

The new season starts in April in Germany, hopefully every week. Think will be great to watch the episodes again.

Most of the TV shows in the US are spreading the last episodes of the season to coincide with May sweeps , for boosting ratings. That's the reason lots of shows are airing every other week..to the annoyment of the viewers :(

Can someone please explain to me what days they upload new episodes? Is it once every 2 weeks??? Is it the same with Grey's??? Thanks

Usually new episodes are updated the day after they are first aired on TV. Both Grey's Anatomy and Private practice air on THursdays and are updated here online on Fridays.

The next episode airs March 11 and will be here Friday March 12 :)

Sadly, Episode 16 airs next week-March 4..so we have to wait until

Yes, it's a different actress. You can see a different name standing below in the beginning. No Audra McDonald. Weird!

Actually it is Audra McDonald who plays Naomi in the pilot episode. Check again!
But an entirely different actress played Naomi in the Grey's Anatomy season 3 episode 22 &23

Actually it's the same actress playing Naomi--Audra McDonald in the pilot episode of Private Practice..she just has curly hair here.

just to let u know ur information is incorrect it is the same person playing naomi all the way through. She just has her hair curley. Google merrin dungey and you will see it's someone completely different.

After watching again now the pilot episode of Private Practice, it is Audra McDonald playing Naomi..but an entirely different actress played Naomi--Merrin Dungey..when her character was first introduced in Grey's Anatomy Season 3 Episode 22 & 23 "The Other Side Of This Life".

Then when Private Practice premiered its pilot episode,Audra McDonald took over the role of Naomi :)

She is right, Merin Dungey played Naomi in the pilot episode that was featured as a part of Grey's Anatomy in Series 3 'The Other Side of This Life'. Then Audra McDonald took over the role when the series started in its own right.

BUT in the pilot episode of Private Practice (season 1 episode 1), Audra McDonald took over the role of Naomi :)
