Help Cucirca.com

November 22nd, 2008

How would you feel if one day all your work were stolen? And moreover you wouldn’t know exactly who to blame or suspect? Well let me tell you what happened to me…

Cucirca.com was stolen from me… A few months ago, a hacker somehow managed to get access to my Gmail account and so the domain was transferred away from me in silence to a guy in Texas. He has stolen several other domains as well and nobody tried to stop him.

When my domain was stolen, I suspected that the hacker used some filters vulnerability in Gmail. Why did I suspect that it was something to do with Gmail? When it comes to security, I am rather cautious: I keep my system up to date and have all essentials including an antivirus, firewalls and malware monitors. I also tend to use strong and unique passwords for every one of my accounts. After the incident, I scanned my system and I didn’t find anything wrong so, now I can say that the problem was with Gmail.

Now, don’t get me wrong… Gmail is probably the best email program, but it might not be a reliable one when it comes to security. Due to a Gmail vulnerability issue, all my work vanished in a second. That doesn’t necessarily means that you will be safe with Yahoo or Live Mail.

Tomorrow you may be in my situation, a victim of an opportunist. I’ve worked so hard over the past three years and built up a name on the web. I will not now see it come crashing down because of an opportunistic criminal. They must be stopped!

The cracker has stolen several other domains as well and nobody tried to stop him.

The full story can be read over here.

How you can help cucirca.com?

Digg and Stumble this article . Maybe we will be heard.

I will update the post as I get new info.

Thanks.

Cucirca, How can we help? I had a feeling something went wrong with the website last night because mysteriously I couldn't view any episodes or submit comments, instead I would get just a blank screen. This is by far the most interactive website and know that we support you!
  • candace
wat do you mean digg and stumble? i will be glad to help any way i can.
  • lola
me too! Im on your side Cucu!
  • alisa
Candace, click on Digg and Stumble *this article* underlined in red which leads you to the full article.

I don't get it, how can it be stolen if you have control over it now and it's on your hosting and you're able to show this message. It makes no dang sense to me - I think you may have already gotten it back because if this isn't cucirca.com then where the hell am I?
  • zamolxis
Florin, is it possible that rather than Gmail itself, the problem is in one of the FF extensions that stores or has access to your Gmail password?
  • He transfered the domains to his name but leaved the nameservers unchanged. I practically work for him :))
  • Niko Bellic
well then either our villain isn't so bad or he's a complete idiot. Why would you go to great lengths to steal a domain and then not park it or do something with it. Why just leave it? Is it a cruel game of wait and see or just a matter of too little time, so many domains?

Anyways this guy is very interesting, if he gets caught I'd like to see an interview with the guy.
  • Chicken3gg
    @cucirca:
can you please post anywhere a direct link to this website?
in case he maybe change the nameserver... then cucirca.com can't be reached anymore...
the direct link to your host please...
  • I will change the website from cucirca.com to cucirca.net if this happens.
  • bilal
does that mean there wont any more episodes as of the moment?

    yea how can we help??
  • Chris
Can't wait to see him get caught. I'm not sure if you're considering buying the domain back from him, but I wouldn't. cucirca.net is a good alternative and what's to say he won't somehow steal it back after you buy it back from him?

My only advice: Start advertising your .net domain to everyone in case he finally does something with cucirca.com. Salvage as much of this site as you can.
  • sommy#1
I'm the one who stole it
    no lie
  • ryan
yea is gmail, i mean think about it all the news u heard of celeb photo stolen n shts cuz they had a gmail account

hello cucirca OMG this fool needs a bullet i would like to run him over in my 4wdrive and then reverse over him and then yell "hack that beearch".i hope it's reading this...just wondering if it would or could possibly be a television network ?? the rich bastards could afford the "hacker".i would call fraud squad,THIS IS SERIOUS,HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHATS GOING ON WITH DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES???!!!
  • Genzen
I have a feeling this was done on purpose to stop the uploading of TV episodes. This is not the first time this has occured and it wont be the last. What progress have you made with company you registered the site with. Also if you can have some sort of letter of admission of fault from Gmail it may help you get your domain back. Best of luck dude
  • Gurt
I was watching heroes yesterday (the links here didn't work, so i watched on another website)and the site asked for the newest version of divx, there was no cancel button and the x sign didn't work either, been working for 5 hours to delite this freaking worm, virus whatever its called.
I'm not good with computers, but if i were, i would make a living of finding and extermination these $%^%^&* hackers. search and destroy. anyway good luck, its a pity I cna't help
  • Tryfon
Cucirca arent there any athorities that handle these types of frauds(there must be)? If so, have you reported something? And what about Gmail, if the problem came from them maybe they can help you out.
However, i agree that he is a clever guy:P not easy to do these kind of things.
  • alisa
Cucirca, help! I think that whoever took over your domain is causing us not to see any episodes! What should we do? This is serious stuff. We have to get a hold of this hacker!
  • anyone
In my opinion you got what you deserved, this is the way everything goes: stupid people lose and smart people win, this is the way it always worked from ancient world weak people are like stepping stones for the strong ones. Anyway congrats to the one who did this.
  • pretty5
Cucirca wanted 2 ask if Brothers&Sister's air on your station if so can you direct me were 2 find tankxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
  • iwonder
That's why you should always 'log out' when your not using a website. If you visit a website with hidden javascript it could automatically submit a form on another website without you even knowing.

Therefore they could have posted something that you viewed that really submitted the form for changing your filters on gmail if you were still logged in at the time (even if it wasnt open in a tab/browser).

If this is the case then gmail ought to fix this themselves, I havn't looked to see if it is possible.

But you should still always log out of sites and not just close down the browser/tab.
  • Matej ( Heroes Television)
I'm very sorry to hear that, what exactly MakeUseOfUs have done to get their domain back? IMO if you receive 100 000 visits a day I would buy back domain name instead of using .net alternative, you should get your money back in month or two. Best of luck, love your site !

File a complaint in registrar, it's simple with all the original records you can get it back easily, and Sue him for damages and liability, it's simple and someone could easyly take a probono case in the us, Im not a lawyer , but you definately know a friend of a guy who can help you, also send a registered letter of your intent to sue if he doesnt return your domain ... should be enough to fright him ... im guessing he didnt use gmail ... my guess he requested a preregister on your domain if it bacame available. Good luck !!! but it will take only some time, to fix it all back ... !
  • Seshaya
It sounds like you're creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place.
  • Yagnaroopaya
    Thank you for your help!
