The two main competitors are google and Yahoo.
It seems that a recent upgrade to Yahoo Messenger includes an innocuous “auto-update” option.
With the messenger update you get ie7 stuffed on your through which hijacks many of your browser preferences including search engine settings.
So it hijacks your homepage and it also switches IE’s default search engine to Yahoo, without permission.
It seems that this battle for your browser’s little search engine box is more important as we may thought and this fight just took an evil turn, with evidence that suggests Yahoo is covertly trying to switch Google search users without their explicit permission. Can you believe that?
